That's also how I decided it was Ariel 12pt since that is what Acrobat identified it as (and it looked like that)

Movavi didn't recognize that modified text at all and PDF Studio only recognized individual letter and could delete them but not change then.(maybe because it recognized them as an image - I didn't investigate that further)Īcrobat 9 on the other hand had no problem recognizing it as text and editing the text. What was also interesting (I didn't mention that) was that the edited text that ended up as Ariel 12 pt couldn't in turn be edited by either Movavi PDF Editor or PDF Studio I was really surprised that both Kofax and PDFpenpro couldn't properly edit the text - TimesNewRoman 12 pt is pretty standard I thought, although I don't use it myself when creating documents. Needs certainly do vary - and as far as "PDF Editors" are concerned, probably vary a lot.

Need to do a bit more testing - apparently that software can also separately adjust the resolution of an image in a pdf document which would be very handy.įor OCR there are other options I have not tried yet. I only paid $4.00 Bundle Hunt) for Movavi PDF Editor 3, so for anything PDF other than OCR this is probably what I will use.

Please remember, these are quickie test using only two documents - a scan of a catalog page with text and images to test OCR and a pdf user manual to test editing. I didn't like that the editing has to be done in a separate window and not directly on the page itself. PDF Studio 2020 also passed the editing test - at least the functionality. The OCR output was better than either the Acrobat or PDFpenpro/Kofax one I reported earlier - only 3 single letters were wrong. Then I came across another application - PDF Studio 2020 However Movavi pdf Editor 3 offers no OCR capability. Recognized the text as Times New Roman 12 pt and replaced it as such. Then tried Movavi PDF Editor 3 - it passed Looks totally out of place and is unacceptable.

Text in the document was identified by Acrobat as Times New Roman 12 pt (very standard in my mind)īoth PDFPen pro and Kofax replaced that with the closest they could find (according to their Help page) which was Ariel 12 pt Tried editing on a commercial pdf user manual.Īcrobat Pro 9 (as reference) - no problemīoth PDFpenpro and Kofax failed in the same way - their interface and the way they try to edit text are extremely similar. Got up early to do a bit more evaluation. There is also Flexipdf by Softmaker -another editor to try.īTW - with that document, when I try to make that three digit number change using Adobe Acrobat pro 9, I get a message that some characters are not available in that font and would be replaced with. Sent a bug report to the company, let's see what happens Opened the modifie document again with Adobe Acrobat and also with Movavi pdf editor, same problem with both of them. Now, on that whole page only, all the spacing between words was removed. Page looked good - saved the page and opened it in Preview. Two problems I ran into - one wasthat the size of the font was detected as 10.2 rather than 12, so that line with the number I was changing had slightly smaller font than the rest of the page. Tried a very simple text edit, changing a three digit number on a page in a pdf document to a different 3 digit number. I tried Movavi pdf editor 3 recently because I had just bought it as part of a bundle. Seems like I have to go through trial versions with each one to see how well they actually perform their advertised functions - specifically the four areas I mentioned which is where I have seen all of the pdf editors struggling, including Acrobat. Thanks Randy, I was hoping that you would comment.

Price is a consideration, but not the primary one Or recommend against any or add any that I might be missing. PDF Editor 6 pro (replaced by PDF element 7?)ĭo people have experience with any of those and could recommend them - specifically for the tasks that I need. Means to control quality of images when converting from png or tiff to pdfĪcrobat Pro 9 doesn't do a consistent good job with any of the four items Conversion to Word (and such) while retaining formattingĤ. I use Preview wherever I can, but I need these additional capabilities ģ. Well, I have no intentions of digging that deep into my pockets to get another copy of Acrobat.

Acrobats message was that I need to upgrade to a newer version. To elaborate "Often doesn't work well" - I fairly regularly get the message that OCR cannot be done on a page, sometimes editing can't be done because the font can't be found and lately that software wouldn't even open pdf files (although Preview did just fine). I have been using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for a while, but I find it often doesn't work well and I'm looking for recommendations for a replacement.
